JENNY

FEMALE | Found Feb 2018

  • Jenny was found unconscious at the base of a large glass sliding door on a farm in Feb 2018 in Fairlie, South Canterbury. She was collected by DOC and brought to the NZ Raptor Trust in Timaru for care and rehabilitation.

Jenny was not able to stand on her own and had a noticeable wing drop on her right hand side.

Over the coming month Jenny managed to eat on her own and gain weight, she was able to stand alone and even took a few small flights. But due to neurological damage she was unable to gain any height in her flight. This means she was unable to fly to perches in trees or hunt for prey, she was not able to be returned to the wild.

Jenny was transferred to us here at the Kārearea Falcon Trust in July 2019 to join our breeding progamme.

She has been partnered with Pari and they had their first chick in 2023 who was released to the wild.

Many of the beautiful photos of Jenny are curtesy of the NZ Raptor Trust in Timaru.
